- How can I get help?
If you would like to talk to a real person about your question or problem, the best thing to do is to call your organization’s help desk or technical support team. Those professionals know the most about the computers at your organization and have been given materials to support Ninth House® Network and NetCD disc users. If you have a question that they cannot answer without more information from Ninth House, they have a toll-free phone number they can use to reach our team of technicians on your behalf.
If you would like to access the Ninth House Customer Support team yourself, use the Troubleshooting section of our Customer Support site. There, you can search our knowledge base of issues or questions and review the resolutions, or you can report an issue of your own and track it through to resolution. You may also e-mail us at support@ninthhouse.com. Whether you report your problem through our support site or our e-mail address, our technicians will respond to your issue in 8 business hours or less.
- The NetCD discs are numbered—do I need to use them in numerical order?
No. The disc numbering (disc 1, disc 2, etc.) is merely our convention for labeling the discs.
When you open a Ninth House course, eSeries® episode, or Instant Advice® module, you will be asked to insert a specific disc (identified by the disc number) into your CD-ROM drive. For example, when you open the High Impact Hiring course, the following message will appear on your screen: "Please Insert: Disc 6."
Additionally, the disc numbering is useful for first-time users of the Ninth House Network, who—in order to access all of the content and features available—must install as many as two browser plug-ins the first time they log on. The Ninth House Network automatically detects which plug-ins must be installed and provides on-screen installation instructions. Any needed browser plug-ins can be installed from disc 1, as noted in the on-screen instructions. Once the needed plug-ins are installed, new users are free to explore the Ninth House Network.
- When do I insert and remove each disc from my CD-ROM drive?
Whenever you open a Ninth House course, eSeries simulation, or Instant Advice module,
you will be asked to insert a specific NetCD disc into your CD-ROM drive. For example, when you
open the High Impact Hiring course, you'll see the following message:
"Please insert NetCD Disc 6."
Whenever you have a course, eSeries episode, or Instant Advice module open, you must keep the NetCD disc you were asked to insert in your CD-ROM drive until you close or exit that learning material.
Some areas of the Ninth House Network do not require NetCD discs. For example, you may open the Conversations and My Profile tabs without inserting a NetCD disc.
- What if I lose or break one of my NetCD discs?
If you lose or break a NetCD disc, you will not have access to the Ninth House Network content on that disc until you receive a replacement disc. However, you will have access to the rest of the Ninth House Network.
To replace broken or lost discs, follow your organization’s established process for requesting NetCD discs. In most organizations, this will involve requesting a new set of NetCD discs from the person in your organization who gave you the current set of NetCD discs. You should not request NetCD discs directly from Ninth House.
You will be sent an entirely new set of NetCD discs—not just the disc or discs that were lost or broken—because NetCD discs are shipped to your organization in prepackaged sets. It is our goal to reduce waste, and we will work to become more efficient about replacement materials in the future.
- What if I am disconnected from the Internet while I’m using NetCD discs?
Losing your Internet connection is always frustrating, and this is also true when you are using NetCD discs. As a rule, when you reconnect to the Internet, you will be sent back to the beginning of the video clip, quiz, or workbook exercise that was in progress when your Internet connection was dropped. Specifically, if the connection goes down while you are
- In a program, the video will continue until the video clip is finished. However, rather than seeing the next clip, you will receive a message stating that your Internet connection has been lost. When you restore your Internet connection and reopen the program, you will return to the beginning of video clip you last watched. In this scenario, the repeated segment should never be more than a few minutes.
- Completing a workbook exercise, you will not know that your connection is lost until you finish the workbook and try to save your work. On trying to save your work, you will receive a message informing you that your Internet connection was lost. Regrettably, you will have to complete your workbook exercise again after reestablishing your Internet connection and reopening the program.
- Taking a quiz, you will not know that your connection has been lost until you complete the quiz. After answering the last question, you will receive a message stating that your connection has been lost. When you restore your Internet connection and reopen the program, you will be taken to the beginning of the quiz and you will need to retake the quiz.
- Are my quiz scores tracked by my learning administrator when I use NetCD discs?
Yes, your progress and performance are tracked as they are for all Ninth House learners, regardless of whether you use NetCD discs.
- When will I receive the next set of NetCD discs?
To offer new courses and features to our learners, Ninth House releases several upgrades to our learning environment each year.
The current Ninth House Network release is version 3.0.
The staff at Ninth House will work with the learning administrator at your organization to coordinate the delivery of new NetCD discs to you when they are available.
- What should I do when I get the next set of NetCD discs?
Version 3.0 NetCD discs replace all earlier NetCD versions. When version 3.0 of the Ninth House Network is available at your organization, you should discard your pre-3.0 disc sets—recycling when possible.
- Can I borrow NetCD discs from a co-worker or do I need my own set?
You can borrow NetCD discs from a co-worker to access the Ninth House Network as long as you have your own logon ID and password. While discs may be shared, it is a violation of the license agreement and your organization’s contract with Ninth House to have multiple people accessing the Network with a single logon ID and password.
- Can I use NetCD discs on an airplane?
Not economically. NetCD discs cannot be used when you are not connected to the Internet. NetCD discs rely on the Internet for access to a proprietary program that tracks your progress in any given learning program or feature and decides which piece of video or animation to deliver next. NetCD discs are not stand-alone copies of our programs and features. However, with NetCD discs you can have full access to the Ninth House Network anywhere you have an Internet connection and a computer with a CD-ROM drive.
- Why do I need the Macromedia Flash Player and Microsoft Windows Media Player?
These browser plug-ins are required to deliver the video and animation content of the Ninth House Network. For more information about these programs, please visit the Web sites of the companies that distribute them. To learn more about the Flash Player, visit www.macromedia.com. For further details about the Windows Media Player, visit www.microsoft.com.
- Which Internet browsers can I use with my NetCD discs?
Ninth House currently supports the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator browsers. For details on supported versions of Explorer and Navigator as well as hardware requirements, please check our minimum client requirements.
- Can I use NetCD discs with my America Online (AOL) account?
Yes, you can use your AOL account to establish the Internet connection needed to access the Ninth House Network. However, the Network is not compatible with AOL’s proprietary Web browser, so you will need to use Internet Explorer instead. The Internet Explorer browser is included with the software provided by AOL. Please review the Installation Instructions for Internet Explorer Users.
