Getting Started
We recommend that you close all other applications.
- Establish an Internet connection.
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Go to www.ninthhouse.net or the location given to you by your administrator.
Attention America Online Users ONLY:
If your Internet service provider is America Online (AOL), log on to AOL as you normally do. Once you’re connected, proceed as follows:
- Open the Start menu by clicking the "Start" button on the taskbar (in the lower-left corner of your screen).
- On the Start menu, click "Run."
- Type "iexplore.exe" into the "Open" text box of the Run dialog box. Click "OK."
- Go to www.ninthhouse.net or the location given to you by your administrator.
Logging On
When you log on to the Ninth House Network, you’ll see the following:
The steps below correspond to the numbering in the Logon dialog box:
- In the "Logon ID" box, enter your logon ID. Your logon ID is usually your full e-mail address (e.g., "JohnDoe@yourcompany.com").
- In the "Password" box, enter your password. The first time you log on to the Ninth House Network, your password is your first name (with the first letter capitalized).
If this is not your first time logging on to the Network, and you have forgotten your password, click "forgot password?" and follow the directions that appear. Your password will be sent to you via e-mail.
- Under "Using NetCD discs this session?" select the "Yes" option button. Click "Using NetCD discs this session?" for information about NetCD discs.
When you have completed steps 1–3, click "Enter" to log on or "Cancel" to clear the logon form. For further assistance logging on, click "Help" in the lower-left corner.
Setting Up Your Account
Note: If you have already set up your Ninth House Network account on another computer, you can skip to the next section.
Installing Plug-ins
You will be prompted to install plug-ins for Macromedia® Flash and the Windows® Media Player, unless these plug-ins are already loaded on your computer. The Network will guide you through the process. These plug-ins need only be loaded the first time that you log on with a given computer.
Flash Player
Follow the steps below to install the Flash Player. Note: The Flash Player installation recommends that you close your browser during installation; however, you can safely ignore these instructions.
- If prompted to do so, click “Yes” to download the Flash plug-in.
- When you see the animated Ninth House logo, click “Next” to proceed.
Windows Media Player
Follow these steps to install the Windows Media Player, if necessary:
- Insert NetCD disc 1 into your CD-ROM drive. Note: During installation, the Ninth House Network will automatically detect your CD-ROM drive letter.
- Click the "Start" button on your taskbar to open the Start menu.
- From the Start menu, select "Run" to open the Run dialog box.
- Type the following into the "Open" text box: "drive letter":\mediaplayer.exe (for Windows 2000 or Millennium edition, type the following: "drive letter":\mediaplayer2000.exe).
Replace "drive letter" with the detected drive letter on your computer. In the example below, the CD-ROM drive is the "D:" drive. If necessary, click "Browse" in the Run dialog box, and then locate the mediaplayer.exe (or mediaplayer2000.exe) file on NetCD disc 1.
- Click "OK." Note: The Windows Media Player setup recommends that you close your browser during installation; however, you can safely ignore these instructions.
- The Windows Media Player installation will begin. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Windows Media Player.
Note: If installation does not begin, repeat steps 2–5.
Note: If installation of Window Media Player stalls, or you are disconnected from the Internet during installation, simply log on as you did before, and installation will resume.
- When the Windows Media Player installation is complete, you will see the following confirmation message. Click "OK."
Note: When the Windows Media Player installation is complete, it opens a new browser window with the Media Player home page. Close this window.
- Click "Next" (at the bottom of your screen).
Mentor Selection & Ninth House Tour
You will now be prompted to select your online Mentor. You will see a set of four groups of words on your screen. Select the group of words that most resonates with you. Repeat for each group of words.
When prompted, select the gender of your Mentor.
Once you have selected your Mentor, a window will open to give you the Ninth House Tour.
Click "Yes" to take the Tour.
You are now ready to explore the Ninth House Network! Have fun learning!
