Installation Instructions for Netscape Users
Welcome to the Ninth House Network NetCD disc installation instructions for Netscape Navigator. The installer program automatically detects components missing on your system. Follow the steps below for any missing component.

Print out these instructions before beginning.

IMPORTANT: If you are a Windows NT user, you must have administrator privileges on your computer to properly install the plug-ins. See your systems administrator if you're unsure of your privileges.

Getting Started

We recommend that you close any open applications.
  • Establish an Internet connection.
  • Open Netscape Navigator.
  • Go to www.ninthhouse.net or the location given to you by your administrator.
Attention America Online Users: If your Internet service provider is America Online (AOL), you should use Internet Explorer to access the Ninth House Network. See the "Installation Instructions for Internet Explorer Users" for more information about this option.

Logging On

When you log on to the Ninth House Network, you’ll see the following:

The steps below correspond to the numbering in the Logon dialog box.
  1. In the "Logon ID" box, enter your logon ID. Your logon ID is usually your full e-mail address (e.g., "JohnDoe@yourcompany.com").
  2. In the "Password" box, enter your password. The first time you log on to the Ninth House Network, your password is your first name (with the first letter capitalized).
    If this is not your first time logging on to the Network, and you have forgotten your password, click "forgot password?" and follow the directions that appear. Your password will be sent to you via e-mail.
  3. Under "Using NetCD discs this session?" select the "Yes" option button. Click "Using NetCD discs this session?" for information about NetCD discs.
When you have completed steps 1–3, click "Enter" to log on or "Cancel" to clear the logon form. For further assistance logging on, click "Help" in the lower-left corner.

Setting Up Your Account

Note: If you have already set up your Ninth House Network account on another computer, you can skip to the next section.
  • Read the Installation: Welcome screen and click "Next."
  • Read the license agreement and scroll to the bottom. Click "Accept" to proceed.
  • Select your gender from the drop-down list.
  • Enter a new password and confirm it.

    Note: The new password you enter will be your permanent password for logging on to the Ninth House Network. You may record your new password here:

  • All other member information is optional. Click "Submit" to move forward.

Installing Plug-ins

The installation wizard will detect whether any plug-ins need to be installed to run the Ninth House Network on your computer. The installation wizard will guide you through this process. You may need to install up to two plug-ins: the Macromedia Flash plug-in and the Windows Media Player.

Flash Player

Follow the steps below to install the Flash Player, if necessary:

  1. Double-click the Flash Player icon to save it to your desktop.
  2. Locate the installer icon on your desktop, and double-click it to begin the installation.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Flash Player. When the Flash Player has been successfully installed, it will open the Macromedia Flash Web site. Close this page.
  4. Log on to the Ninth House Network as you did before (under “Getting Started” and “Logging On”).
Windows Media Player

Follow these steps to install the Microsoft Windows Media Player plug-in, if necessary:

  1. Close Netscape Navigator and any other open applications.
  2. Insert NetCD disc 1 into your CD-ROM drive.
  3. Click the "Start" button on the taskbar to open the Start menu.
  4. From the Start menu, select "Run" to open the Run dialog box.
  5. Type the following into the "Open" text box: "drive letter":\mediaplayer.exe (for Windows 2000 and Millennium edition, type the following: "drive letter":\mediaplayer2000.exe)

    Replace "drive letter" with the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive. In the example below, the CD-ROM drive is the "D:" drive. If necessary, click "Browse" in the Run dialog box, and then locate the MediaPlayer.exe (or MediaPlayer2000.exe) file on NetCD disc 1.


  6. In the Run dialog box, click "OK."
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Windows Media Player.
    Note: If installation of Window Media Player stalls, or you are disconnected from the Internet during installation, simply log on as you did before, and installation will resume.
  8. When the Windows Media Player installation is complete, you will see the following confirmation message. Click "OK."

    Note: When the Windows Media Player installation is complete, it opens a new browser window with the Media Player home page. Close this window.
  9. Log on to the Ninth House Network as you did before (under "Getting Started" and "Logging On").

Mentor Selection & Ninth House Tour

You will now be prompted to select your online Mentor. You will see a set of four groups of words on your screen. Select the group of words that most resonates with you. Repeat for each group of words.

When prompted, select the gender of your Mentor.

Once you have selected your Mentor, a window will open to give you the Ninth House Tour. Click "Yes" to take the Tour.

You are now ready to explore the Ninth House Network! Have fun learning!
